The benefits of studying Lower Primary Phonics
Our Primary Phonics course is designed for Wolsey Hall students in Year 2 and Year 3 who have gaps in their phonics understanding. These children may find spelling difficult and take more time to read longer words. It is also an ideal supplementary phonics program for children who are in Year 1 and are studying in a school other than Wolsey Hall. However, please note this course is only available to students studying at least one of our non-short courses as well.
This course follows a systematic approach to teaching children synthetic phonics. It teaches children to hear, identify and use different sounds that distinguish one word from another in the English language.
Phonics involves pairing the 44 sounds of spoken English with individual letters or groups of letters. Understanding phonics will help children to read unknown words and to know which letters to use when they are writing words. This course is a self-study course in Phonics. It does not include assignments or the allocation of a Tutor.
