For me the most rewarding part of being a teacher is monitoring the children’s progress. It is very satisfying when pupils achieve much higher grades than they were expecting. I enjoy helping children realise their potential, which in turn secures their place at university.

My journey into Science started when I worked as an Industrial Chemist in a chemical laboratory. From there I studied through the Open University, obtained my BSc degree in the Natural Sciences, and then went on to the University of East London to complete my teacher training. I taught first in one of the two Independent Secondary schools in East London. Then for the past ten years, I have worked full time as a Tutor preparing external candidates for IGCSE Biology, Chemistry and Physics. In addition I taught Years 7 – 9 Science as well as A level Biology and Chemistry.

Wherever possible, I try to incorporate examination technique into my teaching style, so that students learn both the course content and how to answer the questions successfully. There are many pointers and helpful pieces of information that can help boost examination grades.

Science is not just a fact-based subject but is a combination of knowledge, practical skills, data analysis and thought. For a student to be successful, they need tuition and guidance in all of these areas.

My other chief interests are travel and classical architecture. Learning about new cultures and experiences is always fascinating. Science can be found everywhere, and where possible I try to incorporate some holiday experiences into my lessons to help inspire and encourage my students.
